Few African Americans studying abroad is a loss for everyone
Only about 5% of US college students who travel internationally are African American, according to a recent article in The Atlantic. This is a loss for African American students, who are missing out on the unique learning opportunities and career boost that study abroad affords. It's also a loss for international study program participants and in-country counterparts, who would benefit from African American students' academic and social contributions. Early education and funding are needed to close this gap. African Americans and the rest of the world have much to gain.
